Spend your working days around the sport you love!

In addition to being ranked the number one recreational activity in the country, golf also accounts for more than $11 billion in the Canadian economy every single year. To meet the need for employees highly trained in all operational aspects of this exciting and growing industry, Durham College, located in Oshawa, Ont., is pleased to introduce a new two-year Golf Facility Operations Management diploma program for September.

The exciting new program will provide students with hands-on practical experience in all operational aspects of the golf industry, including pro shop management and ownership; back shop administration; marketing and sales; event planning; tournament organization; and food and beverage.

"I am really excited about our new Golf Facility Operations Management program,” said Ryan Tracy, faculty member with the college’s School of Business, IT & Management. “I look forward to giving our students a platform to become industry leaders in a game they love. We are introducing some great new courses such as Grow the Game, Issues and Trends in Golf Operations, Career Planning, and Social Media and Society.”

The only program of its kind offered east of Toronto and designed for future golf industry professionals, it will offer students expertise and work experience with the added benefit of a 22-week paid co-op placement, which will enable them to gain in-demand business and management skills and develop career versatility related to golf as well as tennis, ski, and recreation.

Golf Facility Operations Management will graduate students ready for success and prepared to meet the needs of the more than 155,000 jobs in the golf industry in Canada. “Our program will offer a more hands-on approach to teaching that will be fun and interactive for those who are passionate about the game and interested in pursuing a career around the sport they love,” added Tracy.
