Online education boosts careers

U.S. News & World Report had very interesting things to say about virtual education recently, writing that 25% of all post-secondary students took at least one course online in 2009, a 17% jump from 2007. Students are discovering and patching into e-learning, whether it’s to advance career potential or to become more competent in specific job areas.

Online education is the way to go for working people and most employers endorse this form of learning as the most expedient way to train personnel. Companies need their employees to stay current with the latest innovations in their profession. Taking online classes not only does it outside the work cubicle, but at a better price. The payoff is it provides employers better skilled personnel. At the same time, employees get more tools to help climb the career ladder.

A key motivation for employers is that personnel can take classes any time they are free, an option absolutely not available at a brick-and-mortar school. The employees benefit in that it doesn’t cut into their paychecks. If that isn’t enough, new tech such as webcams is making studying even easier by allowing students to have video links with their teachers and fellow students.

Selkirk College offers a 10-course certificate program with intakes in November and January every year. Over the past two years golf club managers have completed about 250 courses online through Selkirk. If you or your staff are interested, visit:
